The Window

This piece is an exploration of windows, both digital and analog, and their potential to open the doors for the creation of new and alternative realities.  This piece is a recollection of narratives, triggered by fragments of conversations eavesdropped through windows that mediate our daily life. In recent weeks, we have found ourselves interacting with the world around us through windows. Our reality has taken a rectangular frame: Phone and computer screens, chat dialogue windows, voice calls, zoom, houseparty, facetime, you name it. We find ourselves restlessly trying to find ways of maintaining our communities and seeking new sources of entertainment, distraction, and fulfillment online. When these resources exhaust themselves and we are alone, the only option we have is to look through our windows, our physical windows. Regardless of what kind of window we are looking through, we are experiencing a fragmented version of reality, snippets of other people’s lives. We are constantly reconstructing or filling in the gaps, creating stories in an attempt to understand this new order, and making sense of the world around us.
